Mountain Home Real Estate Blog

Jordan, Arkansas

June 6th, 2008

JORDAN - My previous blogs have concentrated on Mountain Home. Now I let me tell you about the Jordan area.  It is located a short distance from Mountain Home, just across Norfork Dam on Hwy 5 South. Jordan features open spaces and large tracts of land many have been owned by the same families for generations (See my Rand listing…..the original Land Patent which are now know as Deeds was signed by General Ulysses Grant!  The Applebaum listing which sits on 23 acres will give you and idea of the beautiful vistas which include mountains and valleys.  The Jordan Marina is near by and provides boat launching and a state park for cookouts and picnics.  If you are looking for privacy, abundant wildlife and a place where you can have horses and cattle Jordan may just be the perfect place for you.

The 2008 Fishing Derby for Kids 15 and Under

May 30th, 2008

This event is an experience your child won’t forget.  Remember the thrill of landing that “First Whopper” – even though it on measured about three or four inches!  I am taking my 5 year old grandson for the first time this year and he is so excited….he tells me that he is going to catch a whale or a shark!

Last year there were 214 children who participated, every one of them received at least one prize.  Like other events here in the Mountain Home area, this is truly a community affair.  For more information about the “2008 Fishing Derby for Kids” go to http://www.norforkhatcheryfriends.org/KidsFish.html .

Memorial Day Weekend or “Decoration Day”

May 28th, 2008

The smell of food on the outdoor grills is in the air, children are playing on waterslides and people are working in their gardens and adding new plants to their landscaping.

Many of our neighbors are at the lakes (Norfork & Bull Shoals) where they are spending the holiday on their house boats.  Many of these house boats have full kitchens, living rooms and sleeping quarters for the entire family.  They spend the days fishing and swimming from the decks while navigating around the lake.  A lot of “hello’s”, “how are ya-all doing” and “did you catch any fish” are exchanged from boat to boat.

Master Gardener

May 27th, 2008

Spring is Here!  The sound of lawnmowers and rote tillers abounds.  Gardens are being  planted and in a few months we will have wonderful fresh fruit and veggies.  My grandson, who is five, checks on the seeds everyday after school.   W just planted a few days ago, he apparently thinks he is a “Master Gardener” because he tells me they need; water, sunshine and LOVE so they can grow!   Everything is good here in Mountain Home.

Our first snow this year

February 11th, 2008

February 7, 2008. Woke up to another beautiful sunny day here in Mountain Home. Last Wednesday we had about six inches of snow…our first this Winter. The neighborhood children were playing in the snow, building forts and throwing snow balls at each other. My five year old grandson and I made “snow ice cream” like my mother made for me when I was a little girl (snow, milk, sugar and a drop of vanilla). Spring will be here before we know it and things will begin to turn green.
